பிரித்தானிய இராச்சியத்தின் கீழ் இலங்கை கொண்டு வந்தபின், பக்கத்தில் உள்ள இடங்களை பிரித்தானியர் [[கண்டி]] அரசரிடம் கேட்டனர். ஆனால், அரசர் மறுத்துவிட்டார். கோபம் கொண்ட பிரித்தானியர் உள்ளூர் மக்களை கருவியாகக் கொண்டு அரசரை எதிர்க்கத் திட்டம் தீட்டினர். நாயக்கரான கண்டி அரசருக்கு பிரித்தானியரைக் கண்டு தீய மனப்போக்கு இருந்தது. [[நெதர்லாந்து|ஒல்லாந்தர்]], [[போர்த்துக்கல்|போர்த்துக்கலை]] போல சிறிய நாடுகளிலிருந்து தன் தேசத்தை காப்பாற்றினார். எனினும் பிரித்தானியப் பேரரசைப் போன்ற பலம் மிகுந்த நாட்டை எதிர்ப்பது சுலபமற்றது எனக் கண்டி அரசர் புரிந்து கொண்டார்.
