இவை பிறசார்பு மிதவை நுண்ணுயிரிகள் ஆகும். இவைகள் கடலில் அல்லது பெருங்கடலில் அல்லது நன்னீர் நிலைகளில் அலைந்து திரியும் உயிரினம் ஆகும். "zooplankton" என்ற வார்த்தை கிரேக்க மொழியில் உள்ள விலங்குகள் என்னும் அர்த்தம் கொள்ளும் ஸூ என்ற வார்த்தையில் இருந்தும் அலைந்து திரிவது என்று அர்த்தம் கொள்ளும் வாண்டரர் என்ற வார்த்தையில் இருந்தும் தோன்றியது ஆகும். பொதுவாக இவைகள் தனியாக காணப்படும் போது நுண்ணுயிரிகள் ஆக இருக்கும் ஆனால் நுங்கு மீன் (ஜெல்லி மீன்) போன்ற உயிரினங்கள் பெரியவை ஆகவும் வெறும் கண்ணால் பார்க்க கூடியதாகவும் இருக்கும். ▼
