வில்லியம் ஜோன்ஸ்

சர் வில்லியம் ஜோன்ஸ் (Sir William Jones) (28 செப்டம்பர் 1746 – 27 ஏப்ரல் 1794) ஆங்கிலேயரான இவர் மொழியியல் அறிஞரும், நீதியரசரும் ஆவார். இவர் வகாளத்தின் வில்லியம் கோட்டையில் இருந்த பிரித்தானிய இந்தியாவின் உச்ச நீதிமன்றத்தில் இந்துக்கள் சட்ட நீதியரசராக 22 அக்டோபர் 1783 முதல் 27 ஏப்ரல் 1794 முடிய பணியாற்றியவர். இந்தியவியல் மற்றும் சமஸ்கிருதம் மற்றும் ஐரோப்பிய மொழிகளை கற்றறிந்த இவர், இந்திய-ஆரிய மொழிகளுக்கும், இந்திய ஐரோப்பிய மொழிகளுக்கிடையே உள்ள உறவுகளை நிலைநாட்டியவர். இவர் 1784இல் கொல்கத்தா நகரத்தில் ஆசியச் சமூகம் எனும் நிறுவனத்தை நிறுவினார். சமஸ்கிருத மொழி அறிஞரான இவர் காளிதாசர் எழுதிய நூல்கள் மற்றும் மனுதரும சாத்திரம் சமஸ்கிருத மொழி நூல்களை ஆங்கில மொழியில் மொழி பெயர்த்தார்.
