மோலட்டோவ்-ரிப்பன்டிராப் ஒப்பந்தத்தின் படி செப்டம்பர் 17ம் தேதி சோவியத் ஒன்றியம் கிழக்கிலிருந்து போலந்தைத் தாக்கியது. ஜெர்மானியத் தாக்குதலை சமாளிக்க முடியாமல் பின்வாங்கிக் கொண்டிருந்த போலந்துப் படைகளை இந்த இரண்டாம் முனைத் தாக்குதல் முற்றிலுமாக நிலை குலையச் செய்தது. அடுத்த சில நாட்களில் போலந்துப் படைப்பிரிவுகளும் நகரங்களும் ஒவ்வொன்றாக சோவியத் மற்றும் ஜெர்மானியப் படைகளிடம் சரணடைந்தன. ஆங்காங்கே எதிர்த்துப் போரிட்ட போலந்துப் பாதுகாவல் நிலைகளும் விரைவில் கைப்பற்றப்பட்டன. செப்டம்பர் 28ம் தேதி கிழக்கிலிருந்து முன்னேறி வந்த சோவியத் படைகள் மேற்கிலிருந்து முன்னேறி வந்த ஜெர்மானியப் படைகளை விஸ்துலா ஆற்றினருகே சந்தித்தன. ஆங்காங்கே எஞ்சியிருந்த போலந்துப் படைகள் அக்டோபர் 6ம் தேதிக்குள் முறியடிக்கப்பட்டு போலந்து படையெடுப்பு முடிவுக்கு வந்தது.
