ஜான் தென்னியல்

சர் ஜான் தென்னியல் (பிறப்பு: 1820 பிப்ரவரி 28 - இறப்பு: 1914 பிப்ரவரி 25 ஒரு ஆங்கில விளக்கப்படங்கள் வரைபவரும், வரைகலை நகைச்சுவையாளரும் மற்றும் அரசியல் கேலிச்சித்திரம் வரைபவருமாவார். இவரது பணி 19 ஆம் நூற்றாண்டின் இரண்டாம் பாதியில் முக்கியமானதாக இருந்தது. 1893 ஆம் ஆண்டில் இவரது கலை சாதனைகளுக்காக இவர் பிரித்தானிய கௌரவமான நைட் என்பதில் இளங்கலை பெற்றார். தென்னியல் குறிப்பாக 50 ஆண்டுகளுக்கும் மேலாக பஞ்ச் என்ற பத்திரிகையின் முதன்மை அரசியல் கேலிச்சித்திரம் வரைபவராகவும், லூயிஸ் கரோலின் ஆலிஸின் அட்வென்ச்சர்ஸ் இன் வொண்டர்லேண்ட் (1865) மற்றும் த்ரூ தி லுக்கிங்-கிளாஸ் மற்றும் வாட் ஆலிஸ் ஃபவுண்ட் தெர் (1871) ஆகியவற்றுக்கான விளக்கப்படங்களுக்காகவும் நினைவுகூரப்படுகிறார்.

ஆரம்ப கால வாழ்க்கை

மேற்கு லண்டனின் பேஸ்வாட்டர் என்ற இடத்தில் தென்னியல் பிறந்தார். கியுஜினோட் வம்சாவளியைச் சேர்ந்த வேலி அமைக்கும் பணியாளரும் மற்றும் நடன ஆசிரியருமான ஜான் பாப்டிஸ்ட் தென்னியேல் மற்றும் எலிசா மரியா தென்னியல் ஆகியோருக்கு பிறந்தார். தென்னியலுக்கு இரண்டு சகோதரர்கள் மற்றும் மூன்று சகோதரிகள் என்று ஐந்து உடன்பிறப்புகள் இருந்தனர். மேரி என்ற ஒரு சகோதரி, பின்னர் சமையல் பொருட்களானகார்னிஷ்வேர் தயாரிக்கும் மட்பாண்டங்களின் உரிமையாளர் தாமஸ் குட்வின் க்ரீன் என்பவரை மணந்தார் . தென்னியேல் ஒரு சிறுவனாகவும் பெரியவனாகவும் அமைதியான மற்றும் உள்முக சிந்தனையாளராக இருந்தார். இவர் பொது மக்களின் கவன வெளிச்சத்திலேயே இருப்பதில் திருப்தி அடைந்தார். போட்டி அல்லது மாற்றத்தால் பாதிக்கப்படவில்லை என்று தோன்றியது. இவரது வாழ்க்கை வரலாற்றாசிரியர் ரோட்னி ஏங்கன், தென்னியலின் "வாழ்க்கையிலும் தொழிலிலும் மரியாதைக்குரிய விளிம்பில் வாழ்ந்த மிக உயர்ந்த பண்புள்ள மனிதர்" என்று எழுதினார்.

1840 ஆம் ஆண்டில், தென்னியல், தனது தந்தையுடன் வேலி அமைக்கும் பணியில் ஈடுபட்டிருந்தபோது, இவருக்கு கண்களில் கடுமையான காயம் ஏற்பட்டது. இதனால் தென்னியல் படிப்படியாக தனது வலது கண்ணில் பார்வையை இழந்தார். காயத்தின் தீவிரத்தை இவர் ஒருபோதும் தனது தந்தையிடம் சொல்லவில்லை, ஏனெனில் இவர் தனது தந்தையை மேலும் வருத்தப்படுத்த விரும்பவில்லை.

உயர் கலையை நோக்கிய இவரது போக்கு இருந்தபோதிலும், தென்னியல் ஏற்கனவே ஒரு நகைச்சுவையாளராக அறியப்பட்டு பாராட்டப்பட்டார். மேலும் சார்லஸ் கீனுடனான இவரது ஆரம்பகால தோழமை அறிவார்ந்த கேலிச்சித்திரத்திற்கான தனது திறமையை வளர்த்து வளர்த்தது.
