I guess in Tamil nadu they use the word "aaram" for radius (instead of "aarai" as found in this article) and I have added an article on "aaram".Please give your comments which one is the correct translation. Also, in this article english equivalents for tamil terms like "suRRaLavau" (perimeter?) and "parithi" (circumference?) shall be given.--ரவி (பேச்சு) 16:11, 4 ஏப் 2005 (UTC)
- You may be right Ravi, In Sri Lankan schools the Tamil term we use for radius is "aarai". As I translated initially this article from english, I used the words I knew. I am not against changing it, if Tamil people of india (majority of world Tamils) use another word. I think in Tamil "aaram" means round (முத்தாரம் = முத்து + ஆரம்). This problem will persist as Thamilnadu and Sri Lanka have two different sets of technical terms. I suggest, we can use the word used in Tamilnadu in the body text and create a template to include equivalent Sri Lankan Tamil term with english translation, mainly in articles on science, maths etc. Tamil Virtual University (TVU) web site gives technical terms for science subjects from various sources including a list from Sri Lanka.
