இரவு சுமார் 10:08 மணியளவில்,[4][5] துப்பாக்கி சூடு ஆரம்பித்தது[6] அது கூட்டத்தை நோக்கி மாண்டாலாய் பே விடுதியின் 32-வது மாடியில் இருந்து வந்தது.[4][7][8] விடுதியில் இருந்து 330 மீட்டர் தூரத்தில்,[9] இச்சம்பவம் நடந்தது. ஆரம்பத்தில் பட்டாசு சத்தம் என்று தவறாக புரிந்துகொள்ளப்பட்டது.[10] இத்தாக்குதலில் வெடிச்சத்தத்தை ஆராய்ந்தவர்கள் இது தானியக்க சுடுகலன்கள் என்று அறிவித்தனர்.[11] 20-க்கும் மேற்பட்ட ஆயுதங்கள் கைப்பற்றப்பட்டது அதில் பெரும்பாலும் தானியக்க சுடுகலன்களாக இருந்தன.[1][12] ஆயுதங்கள் மட்டுமின்றி படமெடுக்கும் வசதியுடன் பறக்கும் தானியங்கிகள், தொலைநோக்கி உள்ளிட்டவைகளும் கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டன.[13]

இரவு 11:58 மணியளவில் ஸ்டீபன் பட்டாக் இறந்ததாக காவல்துறை அறிவித்தது.[14] காவல்துறை நுழையும் போதே மாண்டலாய் பே விடுதியின் 32-வது மாடியில் ஸ்டீபன் தற்கொலை செய்துகொண்டார்.[7][15][16][17]

பட்டாக், மாண்டாலாய் பே ஹோட்டலின் 32 வது மாடியிலிருந்து லாஸ் வேகாஸ் கிராமத்தின் கச்சேரிகளில் கலந்துகொண்டவர்கள் மீது துப்பாக்கி சூடுநடத்தினார்.

குறைந்தது 59 நபர்கள் கொல்லப்பட்டனர்,[18] இதைல் காவல் துறையைச் சார்ந்த ஒருவரும்[19] இரண்டு கனடா நாட்டைச் சார்ந்தவர்களும் அடங்குவர்.[20] குறைந்தபட்சம் 527 நபர்கள் காயமடைந்தனர்,[18] மருத்துவமனையில் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்ட சிலரும் உயிரழந்தனர்.[21][22][23]

ஐக்கிய அமெரிக்க நாடுகளில் நடந்த மிகத்துயரமிக்க தாக்குதல் இதுவே. இதற்கு முன்னர் 2016 ஒர்லாண்டோ தாக்குதலில் 49 நபர்கள் உயிரழந்தனர்.[22][24][25]

குற்றவாளி தொகு

இத்துப்பாக்கிச் சூட்டை நிகழ்த்தியது ஸ்டீபன் பட்டாக் (ஏப்ரல் 9, 1953 – அக்டோபர் 1, 2017),[26] 64 வயதுடைய கலிபோர்னியாவைச் சேர்ந்தவர் எனவும், நெவடா மாகாணத்தில் வசித்தவர் என்பதும் தெரியவந்தது.[3][27][28] காவல்துறையினர் 19 ஆயுதங்களை ஸ்டீபன் தங்கியிருந்த அறைகளில் இருந்து கைப்பற்றினர், அதில் சுடுகலன், கைத்துப்பாக்கி, உள்ளிட்டவைகளும் அடங்கும்.[1][29] காவல்துறையின் கூற்றின்படி குற்றவாளி தனி ஒருவனாக இதைச் செய்துள்ளதாகவும், அவனுடைய குறிக்கோள் தெரியவில்லை என்றும் தெரிவித்துள்ளனர்.[16][30][31][32] எப்பிஐ வெளியிட்டுள்ள அறிக்கையில் ஸ்டீபன் எந்த ஒரு பன்னாட்டு தீவிரவாத அமைப்பையும் சார்ந்தவரில்லை என்று கூறியுள்ளது.[33]

ஸ்டீபனுக்கு சொந்தமாக கட்டிடங்களும் இருந்துள்ளது.[27] இவருக்கு சொந்தமாக இரு விமானங்களும் இருந்துள்ளது, இவர் ஒரு விமான ஓட்டியாவார்.[27][34]
