தேன் பருந்து (Oriental Honey Buzzard) இப்பறவை ஊன் உண்ணி வகையைச்சார்ந்தது ஆகும். அதிகமாக இந்தியாவின் தமிழ் நாடு மாநிலத்தில் காணப்படுகிறது. இப்பறவையைபோல் பருந்து, கழுகு, பூனைப் பருந்து போன்றவையும் ஊன் உண்ணி வகைகள் ஆகும்.[3]

இவ்வகையான பருந்துகளின் பொது பெயர் பாறு என அழைக்கப்படுகிறது. இதன் உடல் மேல் பரவியுள்ள தூவல்களின் நிறத்தைக்கொண்டு இதனை தேன் பருந்து என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறது. மேலும் தேன் அடைகளில் காணப்படும் சிறிய லார்வா புழுக்களைப் பிடித்து உண்ணும் பழக்கம் கொண்டுள்ளது.[4] இவை சைபீரியா, ஆசியா, ஜப்பான்போன்ற பகுதிகளை தன் இனவிருத்தி மண்டலமாகக் கொண்டுள்ளது.[5][6] இப்பறவைகளை கோடைகாலங்களில் நகர்வுகளைச் சைபீரியா பகுதிகளிளும் குளிர் காலங்களில் தென்கிழக்காசியா பகுதிகளுக்கும் மாற்றிக்கொள்கிறது. இப்பறவை ஒன்றுக்கும் மேற்பட்ட கூடுகளைக்கட்டுகிறது. மேலும் இவை தேன் ஈயின் லார்வா புழுக்களையும், குளவிகளையும் விரும்பி உட்கொள்கிறது. இதனுடன் வண்டுகளையும் பிடித்து உட்கொள்கிறது. பொதுவாக மரங்கள் அடர்ந்த காடுகளைத் தமது இனப்பெருக்கத்திற்கு தேர்ந்தெடுக்கிறது.
