தொகுMedical articles
தொகுHi James, I appreciate you and your team for translating medical articles, which would be good asset to us. I would like to bring to you couple of issues, which that reflect in our village pump. 1. Medical terms or technical wording seem high. It would be good for “all readers” if translator uses simple words. 2. If you could split the articles and save them partial by partial instead of entire article, it would help us in many ways such as correction, negative impact as machine translation, etc. Thank you. --Anton·٠•●♥Talk♥●•٠· 18:26, 10 சனவரி 2014 (UTC)
- I am not doing the translation. It is done by volunteers at Translators Without Borders. I could let them know. These are not machine translation. What do you mean by "partial by partial"? Would you be interested in being connected to the translators? We would love you to join in this effort. Am working on simplifying the article more before I give them to the translators. James Heilman, MD (talk · contribs · email)(please leave replies on my talk page) 19:15, 10 சனவரி 2014 (UTC)
James, We want people/Translator to upload the article part by part instead of bulk upload. For ex article is 1000KB we ask them to upload it 250KB, 2502KB, 2502KB, 2502KB like that. they can upload it after 100KB too. It will help for proof reading. I know Wiki medicine/Translation task force/RTT has proof readers but wiki people will help in proof reading and reduce wiki task force proof reader work. so english wiki bot does not consider your team article in tamil as machine translation, we had this experience "Tamil's sole long article was tagged as a machine translation" with english wiki because of google translation article. It will reduce many red links and will help to use technical term which is used in wiki for better understanding (one word in all wiki articles). --குறும்பன் (பேச்சு) 16:34, 11 சனவரி 2014 (UTC)
- Okay. It is hard for us to upload it bit by bit. The translation is done on this website as that is were the translators feel comfortable.[2]
- If someone on Tamil Wikipedia is willing to take on the integration of the articles after they are translated than this would be possible. Would you be interested? James Heilman, MD (talk · contribs · email)(please leave replies on my talk page) 19:39, 11 சனவரி 2014 (UTC)
James, I am ok for it but is it possible to include 2 more people from Tamil wiki as integrator? --குறும்பன் (பேச்சு) 00:22, 13 சனவரி 2014 (UTC)
- Certainly. Let me know if you need further details. 207.216.73.45 05:13, 13 சனவரி 2014 (UTC)
- Halo James! First of all, thanks that you left an immediate response in my talk page after I made a comment on the translated articles by the team of Translation Task Force. Sorry for my delayed reply to you. The reason is simply because, we have been discussing this issue in our village pump and waited until I know what we can do to improve the situation. Anton and Kurumban have already brought up the message from the village pump here. We really appreciate and are happy about the project when it leads to more complete medical articles in Tamil wiki. As Anton and Kurumban have mentioned, only a few things made us worry since we had problems with the google translated articles.
- If you think that your translators cannot upload the article bit by bit, a few Tamil wikipedians can help in this process. Kurumban has already agreed to be as an integrator. I'm also in and do some proof reading and uploading to Tamil wiki. I see here that Karthi.dr and Senthi are included in your project. We have a comparative project page in Tamil wiki and the people who are connected there will, hopefully, join in this project. And some other Tamil wikipedians also can join when the project gets going. So, uploading to Tamil wiki will not be a problem.
- When the articles are under proof reading, our Tamil wikipedians can find the correct technical terms that is broadly used in Tamil wiki and edit them or give the correct internal links. If your team of translators give the English technical terms within brackets, then it would be easier for us to find the corresponding terms in Tamil wiki, even though we are not familiar with the Tamil term they use. In this way, we can avoid the red links. Giving the English term in the title can also be avoided when there is widely used Tamil technical term is available. For example the Tamil term is available for the title ஹைபர்டென்ஷன்.
- Selection of articles is another problem. If you translate an article that already exists in Tamil wiki, then we have to spend more time on transferring contents and merging the two articles. But if the selected article is a google translated article, and when the new article is a complete one, may be we can merge them without transferring the contents and save time. Would you like us to suggest the articles?
- Thanks and looking forward to work with you and to increase the comprehensive medical articles in Tamil wiki :).--கலை (பேச்சு) 11:44, 13 சனவரி 2014 (UTC)
- I am happy to leave uploading to your group. With respect to articles for translation, we are only translating them once they reach GA or FA. We do not want to translate poor quality content. Do you want to email me and I can put you in contact with the translators? James Heilman, MD (talk · contribs · email)(please leave replies on my talk page) 01:54, 14 சனவரி 2014 (UTC)

Thanks James! We will contact the translators and discuss these issues. Don't we need the access to the workspace to read/edit/upload articles that are completed by the translators? Please let us know how do we do this.--கலை (பேச்சு) 22:46, 15 சனவரி 2014 (UTC)

About the Dengue fever article
தொகுThe Corresponding article in Tamil wiki, டெங்கு காய்ச்சல், was actually created by a Tamil wiki user and then edited by many (including me). When we do the edits on any articles (not only the ones included in this project), we used to translate from English wiki too. I downloaded the 'Dengue fever - Tamil translation' from TWB space and compared the article that exist in ta.wiki. The one in ta.wiki is not a direct translation of English article. But the one in TWB space is a direct translation. So, it's really confusing when TWB article is noted as 'Live' and directly connected to the ta.wiki article. It may provide an appearance that the TWB translated article is uploaded in ta.wiki, when it is not correct. So please kindly make the necessary changes in TWB space and in english wiki project page. May be the article in TWB space can be marked as 'Done', but not linked to the ta.wiki article for the time being. In the project page also, it may be marked as 'completed', but not 'Live'. When we have time, we can go through your translated article and include the contents in our existing article. Thanks. --கலை (பேச்சு) 23:43, 21 சனவரி 2014 (UTC)
- Yes so it would only be a partial translation than? This is similar to what is being done by the Italian team. The translations are all done by local Wikipedians based partly on the "good articles" / "featured articles" we are writing in English. Have changed live to done to match the wording we used there.
