WMF Community Board seats: Upcoming panel discussions

As a result of the first three weeks of the call for feedback on WMF Community Board seats, three topics turned out to be the focus of the discussion. Additionally, a new idea has been introduced by a community member recently: Candidates resources. We would like to pursue these focus topics and the new idea appropriately, discussing them in depth and collecting new ideas and fresh approaches by running four panels in the next week. Every panel includes four members from the movement covering many regions, backgrounds and experiences, along with a trustee of the Board. Every panel will last 45 minutes, followed by a 45-minute open mic discussion, where everyone’s free to ask questions or to contribute to the further development of the panel's topics.

[Small wiki toolkits] Workshop on "Debugging/fixing template errors" - 27 March

[upcoming deployment] Growth team features

Hello! Sorry to use English. Please help translate to your language.

I'm Trizek (WMF). I work as a community relations specialist for the Wikimedia Foundation. I'm here to share a message from the Growth team.

As you may already know, the Growth team's goal is to create features that would help newcomers. Our goal is to help newcomers when they edit for the first time and also to increase the retention of new editors. Several wikis already have these features since a long time now. Working with these wikis, the Growth team found evidence of the efficiency of these new features.

These features will be available for all new accounts on your Wikipedia starting on April 7. This way your Wikipedia will offer more options for newcomers to make good first edits and become community members.

Which features?

The newcomer homepage (displayed using Czech language)

We have created several features to help them, and also to help community members who help them :

• Newcomer homepage: a new special page, the best place for a newcomer to get started. It includes:
  • Newcomer tasks: a feed of task suggestions that help newcomers learn to edit. Newcomers have been making productive edits through this feed! Know more about this tool.
  • [optional] Mentorship module: each newcomers has a direct link to an experienced user (see below). This way, they can ask questions about editing Wikipedia, less the need to find where to ask for assistance.
  • Impact module: the user sees how many pages views articles they edit received. Have a look at Special:Impact for yours!
• Help panel: a platform to provide resources to newcomers while they are editing. If they do some suggested tasks, they are guided step-by-step on the process of editing.
• Welcome Survey: communities can know why newcomers create an account on Wikipedia.

The features available right now in your preferences (here and there) so that you can try them. They are not yet visible to newcomers.

How to help?

First, we need help to translate the features. At the moment, most of the messages newcomers will see on your Wikipedia are in English, some of them have been translated using machine translation. Please help translate the interface (done on translatewiki.net. It needs a specific account).

Also, I need your help checking on the configuration the team setups as default. Please try the features and let us know if something questions you.

Newcomers tasks are based on templates to suggest edits to newcomers. You can check the templates used on MediaWiki:NewcomerTasks.json. You can also change the templates and the help links defined there. Several templates can be added for the same task.

It you are familiar with Phabricator, here is the ticket with all the information we used for the deployment. Please have a look at it. You can suggest changes by replying to this message.

If you wish to, you can create a list of mentors. This will activate the optional Mentorship module. Please format the list following the guidance. You need at least one mentor for each 500 new accounts created monthly on your wiki (3 mentors minimum). Are you hesitant to become a mentor? Please check the resources we have written based on other mentors' experiences. Please tell us if you are interested by creating a mentor list!

The Universal Code of Conduct (UCoC) provides a universal baseline of acceptable behavior for the entire Wikimedia movement and all its projects. The project is currently in Phase 2, outlining clear enforcement pathways. You can read more about the whole project on its project page.

Drafting Committee: Call for applications

The Wikimedia Foundation is recruiting volunteers to join a committee to draft how to make the code enforceable. Volunteers on the committee will commit between 2 and 6 hours per week from late April through July and again in October and November. It is important that the committee be diverse and inclusive, and have a range of experiences, including both experienced users and newcomers, and those who have received or responded to, as well as those who have been falsely accused of harassment.

2021 community consultations: Notice and call for volunteers / translators

From 5 April – 5 May 2021 there will be conversations on many Wikimedia projects about how to enforce the UCoC. We are looking for volunteers to translate key material, as well as to help host consultations on their own languages or projects using suggested key questions. If you are interested in volunteering for either of these roles, please contact us in whatever language you are most comfortable.

Global bot policy changes

Hello!

I apologize for sending a message in English. Please help translate to your language. According to the list, your wiki project is currently opted in to the global bot policy. As such, I want to let you know about some changes that were made after the global RfC was closed.

• Global bots are now subject to a 2 week discussion, and it'll be publicized via a MassMessage list, available at Bot policy/New global bot discussion on Meta. Please subscribe yourself or your wiki if you are interested in new global bots proposals.
• For a bot to be considered for approval, it must demonstrate it is welcomed in multiple projects, and a good way to do that is to have the bot flag on at least 5 wikis for a single task.
• The bot operator should make sure to adhere to the wiki's preference as related to the use of the bot flag (i.e., if a wiki doesn't want a bot to use the flag as it edits, that should be followed).

Line numbering coming soon to all wikis

Example

From April 15, you can enable line numbering in some wikitext editors - for now in the template namespace, coming to more namespaces soon. This will make it easier to detect line breaks and to refer to a particular line in discussions. These numbers will be shown if you enable the syntax highlighting feature (CodeMirror extension), which is supported in the 2010 and 2017 wikitext editors.

[Small wiki toolkits] Workshop on "Designing responsive main pages" - 30 April (Friday)

As part of the Small wiki toolkits (South Asia) initiative, we would like to announce the third workshop of this year on “Designing responsive main pages”. The workshop will take place on 30 April (Friday). During this workshop, we will learn to design main pages of a wiki to be responsive. This will allow the pages to be mobile-friendly, by adjusting the width and the height according to various screen sizes. Participants are expected to have a good understanding of Wikitext/markup and optionally basic CSS.

Suggested Values

From April 29, it will be possible to suggest values for parameters in templates. Suggested values can be added to TemplateData and will then be shown as a drop-down list in VisualEditor. This allows template users to quickly select an appropriate value. This way, it prevents potential errors and reduces the effort needed to fill the template with values. It will still be possible to fill in values other than the suggested ones.

Call for Election Volunteers: 2021 WMF Board elections

Hello all,

Based on an extensive call for feedback earlier this year, the Board of Trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees announced the plan for the 2021 Board elections. Apart from improving the technicalities of the process, the Board is also keen on improving active participation from communities in the election process. During the last elections, Voter turnout in prior elections was about 10% globally. It was better in communities with volunteer election support. Some of those communities reached over 20% voter turnout. We know we can get more voters to help assess and promote the best candidates, but to do that, we need your help.

We are looking for volunteers to serve as Election Volunteers. Election Volunteers should have a good understanding of their communities. The facilitation team sees Election Volunteers as doing the following:

• Promote the election and related calls to action in community channels.
• With the support from facilitators, organize discussions about the election in their communities.
• Translate “a few” messages for their communities

Check out more details about Election Volunteers and add your name next to the community you will support in this table. இந்திய விக்கிமூலங்களிலேயே நம் தமிழ் விக்கிமூலம், முதலில் ஒரு இலகரம் பக்கங்களில் மெய்ப்புப்பணி முடித்துள்ளது. மெய்ப்புப்பணி என்பது நூல் ஒன்றின் அச்சுப்பக்கத்தினை போல, வாக்கியங்களை உருவாக்குதல் ஆகும். இதில் முதன்மையாக, கணியம் திட்டத்தினர் உதவியுள்ளனர். அதிக பங்களிப்புகளை அவர்கள் முடித்துள்ளனர். மேலும், பல பைத்தான் நிரல்களை எழுதி கட்டற்ற முறையில் அளித்துள்ளனர். அதனால் தமிழ் மட்டுமல்லாது இந்திய மொழிகளில் விக்கிமூலம் வளர்ந்துள்ளது. இதனால் படமாக இருக்கும் அச்சுநூல்கள், எழுத்துவடிவம் பெற்று, உருவாக்கப்படும் தரவுகள், பல்வேறு கணினி சார் தமிழ் மொழியியல் ஆய்வுகளுக்குப் பயனாகி, கணினித்தமிழ் வளர்ச்சி மேலோங்குகிறது.

Candidates from South Asia for 2021 Wikimedia Foundation Board Elections

Dear Wikimedians,

As you may be aware, the Wikimedia Foundation has started elections for community seats on the Board of Trustees. While previously there were three community seats on the Board, with the expansion of the Board to sixteen seats last year, community seats have been increased to eight, four of which are up for election this year.

In the last fifteen years of the Board's history, there were only a few candidates from the South Asian region who participated in the elections, and hardly anyone from the community had a chance to serve on the Board. While there are several reasons for this, this time, the Board and WMF are very keen on encouraging and providing support to potential candidates from historically underrepresented regions. This is a good chance to change the historical problem of representation from the South Asian region in high-level governance structures.

Ten days after the call for candidates began, there aren't any candidates from South Asia yet, there are still 10 days left! I would like to ask community members to encourage other community members, whom you think would be potential candidates for the Board. While the final decision is completely up to the person, it can be helpful to make sure that they are aware of the election and the call for candidates.

[Wikimedia Foundation elections 2021] Candidates meet with South Asia + ESEAP communities

Dear Wikimedians,

As you may already know, the 2021 Board of Trustees elections are from 4 August 2021 to 17 August 2021. Members of the Wikimedia community have the opportunity to elect four candidates to a three-year term.

After a three-week-long Call for Candidates, there are 20 candidates for the 2021 election. This event is for community members of South Asian and ESEAP communities to know the candidates and interact with them.

• The event will be on 31 July 2021 (Saturday), and the timings are:

• India & Sri Lanka: 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm
• Bangladesh: 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm
• Nepal: 6:15 pm to 8:45 pm

New Wikipedia Library collections and design update (August 2021)

Hello Wikimedians!

The TWL OWL says log in today!

The Wikipedia Library is pleased to announce the addition of new collections, alongside a new interface design. New collections include:

• Cabells – Scholarly and predatory journal database
• Taaghche - Persian language e-books
• Merkur, Musik & Ästhetik, and Psychologie, Psychotherapie, Psychoanalyse - German language magazines and journals published by Klett-Cotta
• Art Archiv, Capital, Geo, Geo Epoche, and Stern - German language newspapers and magazines published by Gruner + Jahr

Additionally, De Gruyter and Nomos have been centralised from their previous on-wiki signup location on the German Wikipedia. Many other collections are freely available by simply logging in to The Wikipedia Library with your Wikimedia login!

We are also excited to announce that the first version of a new design for My Library was deployed this week. We will be iterating on this design with more features over the coming weeks. Read more on the project page on Meta.

Lastly, an Echo notification will begin rolling out soon to notify eligible editors about the library (T132084). If you can translate the notification please do so at TranslateWiki!

Voting for the 2021 Board of Trustees election is now open. Candidates from the community were asked to submit their candidacy. After a three-week-long Call for Candidates, there are 19 candidates for the 2021 election.

The Wikimedia movement has the opportunity to vote for the selection of community and affiliate trustees. By voting, you will help to identify those people who have the qualities to best serve the needs of the movement for the next several years. Universal Code of Conduct - Enforcement draft guidelines review

The Universal Code of Conduct Phase 2 drafting committee would like comments about the enforcement draft guidelines for the Universal Code of Conduct (UCoC). This review period is planned for 17 August 2021 through 17 October 2021.

These guidelines are not final but you can help move the progress forward. The committee will revise the guidelines based upon community input.

Comments can be shared in any language on the draft review talk page and multiple other venues. Community members are encouraged to organize conversations in their communities.

There are planned live discussions about the UCoC enforcement draft guidelines:

The 2022 Community Wishlist Survey will happen in January

Hello everyone,

We hope all of you are as well and safe as possible during these trying times! We wanted to share some news about a change to the Community Wishlist Survey 2022. We would like to hear your opinions as well.

Summary:

We will be running the Community Wishlist Survey 2022 in January 2022. We need more time to work on the 2021 wishes. We also need time to prepare some changes to the Wishlist 2022. In the meantime, you can use a dedicated sandbox to leave early ideas for the 2022 wishes.

Proposing and wish-fulfillment will happen during the same year

In the past, the Community Tech team has run the Community Wishlist Survey for the following year in November of the prior year. For example, we ran the Wishlist for 2021 in November 2020. That worked well a few years ago. At that time, we used to start working on the Wishlist soon after the results of the voting were published.

However, in 2021, there was a delay between the voting and the time when we could start working on the new wishes. Until July 2021, we were working on wishes from the Wishlist for 2020.

We hope having the Wishlist 2022 in January 2022 will be more intuitive. This will also give us time to fulfill more wishes from the 2021 Wishlist.

Encouraging wider participation from historically excluded communities

We are thinking how to make the Wishlist easier to participate in. We want to support more translations, and encourage under-resourced communities to be more active. We would like to have some time to make these changes.

A new space to talk to us about priorities and wishes not granted yet

We will have gone 365 days without a Wishlist. We encourage you to approach us. We hope to hear from you in the talk page, but we also hope to see you at our bi-monthly Talk to Us meetings! These will be hosted at two different times friendly to time zones around the globe.

We will begin our first meeting September 15th at 23:00 UTC. More details about the agenda and format coming soon!

Brainstorm and draft proposals before the proposal phase

If you have early ideas for wishes, you can use the new Community Wishlist Survey sandbox. This way, you will not forget about these before January 2022. You will be able to come back and refine your ideas. Remember, edits in the sandbox don't count as wishes!

Results of 2021 Wikimedia Foundation elections

Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2021 Board election. The Elections Committee has reviewed the votes of the 2021 Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees election, organized to select four new trustees. A record 6,873 people from across 214 projects cast their valid votes. The following four candidates received the most support:

• Rosie Stephenson-Goodknight
• Victoria Doronina
• Dariusz Jemielniak
• Lorenzo Losa

While these candidates have been ranked through the community vote, they are not yet appointed to the Board of Trustees. They still need to pass a successful background check and meet the qualifications outlined in the Bylaws. The Board has set a tentative date to appoint new trustees at the end of this month.

Universal Code of Conduct EDGR conversation hour for South Asia

Dear Wikimedians,

As you may already know, the Universal Code of Conduct (UCoC) provides a baseline of behaviour for collaboration on Wikimedia projects worldwide. Communities may add to this to develop policies that take account of local and cultural context while maintaining the criteria listed here as a minimum standard. The Wikimedia Foundation Board has ratified the policy in December 2020.

The current round of conversations is around how the Universal Code of Conduct should be enforced across different Wikimedia platforms and spaces. This will include training of community members to address harassment, development of technical tools to report harassment, and different levels of handling UCoC violations, among other key areas.

The conversation hour is an opportunity for community members from South Asia to discuss and provide their feedback, which will be passed on to the drafting committee. The details of the conversation hour are as follows:

Movement Charter Drafting Committee - Community Elections to take place October 11 - 24

This is a short message with an update from the Movement Charter process. The call for candidates for the Drafting Committee closed September 14, and we got a diverse range of candidates. The committee will consist of 15 members, and those will be (s)elected via three different ways.

The 15 member committee will be selected with a 3-step process:

• Election process for project communities to elect 7 members of the committee.
• Selection process for affiliates to select 6 members of the committee.
• Wikimedia Foundation process to appoint 2 members of the committee.

The community elections will take place between October 11 and October 24. The other process will take place in parallel, so that all processes will be concluded by November 1.

Meet the new Movement Charter Drafting Committee members

The Movement Charter Drafting Committee election and selection processes are complete.

• The election results have been published. 1018 participants voted to elect seven members to the committee: Richard Knipel (Pharos), Anne Clin (Risker), Alice Wiegand (Lyzzy), Michał Buczyński (Aegis Maelstrom), Richard (Nosebagbear), Ravan J Al-Taie (Ravan), Ciell (Ciell).
• The affiliate process has selected six members: Anass Sedrati (Anass Sedrati), Érica Azzellini (EricaAzzellini), Jamie Li-Yun Lin (Li-Yun Lin), Georges Fodouop (Geugeor), Manavpreet Kaur (Manavpreet Kaur), Pepe Flores (Padaguan).
• The Wikimedia Foundation has appointed two members: Runa Bhattacharjee (Runab WMF), Jorge Vargas (JVargas (WMF)).

The committee will convene soon to start its work. The committee can appoint up to three more members to bridge diversity and expertise gaps.

Enabling Section Translation: a new mobile translation experience

The WMF Language team is pleased to let you know that we will like to enable the Section translation tool in Tamil Wikipedia. For this, our team will love you to read about the tool and test it so you can:

• Give us your feedback
• Ask us questions
• Tell us how to improve it.

Below is background information about Section translation, why we have chosen your community, and how to test it.

Background information

Content Translation has been a successful tool for editors to create content in their language. More than one million articles have been created across all languages since the tool was released in 2015. The Wikimedia Foundation Language team has improved the translation experience further with the Section Translation. The WMF Language team enabled the early version of the tool in February in Bengali Wikipedia and we have enabled it in five other languages. Through their feedback, the tool was improved and ready for your community to test and help us with feedback to make it better.

Section Translation extends the capabilities of Content Translation to support mobile devices. On mobile, the tool will:

• Guide you to translate one section at a time in order to expand existing articles or create new ones.
• Make it easy to transfer knowledge across languages anytime from your mobile device.

Tamil Wikipedia seems an ideal candidate to enjoy this new tool since data shows significant mobile editing activity.

We plan to enable the tool on Tamil Wikipedia in the coming weeks if we get positive feedback about the tool from your community. After it is enabled, we’ll monitor the content created with the tool and process all the feedback. In any case, feel free to raise any concerns or questions you may already have in any of the following formats:

Before the enablement, you can try the current implementation of the tool in our testing instance. Section Translation tool enabled in Tamil Wikipedia

Hello Tamil Wikipedians!

The Language team is pleased to let you know that the Section Translation tool is now enabled in Tamil Wikipedia. It means you can translate real content one section at a time using your mobile devices with ease.

Now you can also start translating an article on your mobile device when you notice it is missing in Tamil. From a Wikipedia article in any language, switch languages and search for Tamil. If the article does not exist, an option to translate it will appear, as shown in the image below.

We have enabled this tool in your Wikipedia after communicating our intentions to enable it. This tool will be useful for your community since data shows significant mobile device activity in Tamil Wikipedia.

This is an upcoming online wiki event that is to be conducted from 18 to 20 February 2022 to celebrate International Mother Language Day. The Board of Trustees is preparing a call for feedback about the upcoming Board Elections, from January 7 - February 10, 2022.

While details will be finalized the week before the call, we have confirmed at least two questions that will be asked during this call for feedback:

• What is the best way to ensure fair representation of emerging communities among the Board?

• What involvement should candidates have during the election?

While additional questions may be added, the Movement Strategy and Governance team wants to provide time for community members and affiliates to consider and prepare ideas on the confirmed questions before the call opens. We apologize for not having a complete list of questions at this time. The list of questions should only grow by one or two questions. The intention is to not overwhelm the community with requests, but provide notice and welcome feedback on these important questions.

The Call for Feedback: Board of Trustees elections is now open and will close on 16 February 2022.

With this Call for Feedback, the Movement Strategy and Governance team is taking a different approach. This approach incorporates community feedback from 2021. Instead of leading with proposals, the Call is framed around key questions from the Board of Trustees. The key questions came from the feedback about the 2021 Board of Trustees election. The intention is to inspire collective conversation and collaborative proposal development about these key questions.

There are two confirmed questions that will be asked during this Call for Feedback:

1. What is the best way to ensure more diverse representation among elected candidates? The Board of Trustees noted the importance of selecting candidates who represent the full diversity of the Wikimedia movement. The current processes have favored volunteers from North America and Europe.
2. What are the expectations for the candidates during the election? Board candidates have traditionally completed applications and answered community questions. How can an election provide appropriate insight into candidates while also appreciating candidates’ status as volunteers?

There is one additional question that may be presented during the Call about selection processes. This question is still under discussion, but the Board wanted to give insight into the confirmed questions as soon as possible. Hopefully if an additional question is going to be asked, it will be ready during the first week of the Call for Feedback.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Call for Feedback: Board of Trustees elections so far. The Movement Strategy and Governance team has announced the last key question:

How should affiliates participate in elections?

Affiliates are an important part of the Wikimedia movement. Two seats of the Board of Trustees due to be filled this year were filled in 2019 through the Affiliate-selected Board seats process. A change in the Bylaws removed the distinction between community and affiliate seats. This leaves the important question: How should affiliates be involved in the selection of new seats?

The question is broad in the sense that the answers may refer not just to the two seats mentioned, but also to other, Community- and Affiliate-selected seats. The Board is hoping to find an approach that will both engage the affiliates and give them actual agency, and also optimize the outcomes in terms of selecting people with top skills, experience, diversity, and wide community’s support.

The Board of Trustees is seeking feedback about this question especially, although not solely, from the affiliate community. Everyone is invited to share proposals and join the conversation in the Call for Feedback channels. In addition to collecting online feedback, the Movement Strategy and Governance team will organize several video calls with affiliate members to collect feedback. These calls will be at different times and include Trustees.

Due to the late addition of this third question, the Call will be extended until 16 February.

IMPORTANT: Admin activity review

Hello. A policy regarding the removal of "advanced rights" (administrator, bureaucrat, interface administrator, etc.) was adopted by global community consensus in 2013. According to this policy, the stewards are reviewing administrators' activity on all Wikimedia Foundation wikis with no inactivity policy. To the best of our knowledge, your wiki does not have a formal process for removing "advanced rights" from inactive accounts. This means that the stewards will take care of this according to the admin activity review.

We have determined that the following users meet the inactivity criteria (no edits and no logged actions for more than 2 years):

1. Logicwiki (administrator)
2. Mdmahir (administrator)
3. உமாபதி (administrator)
4. கோபி (administrator)

These users will receive a notification soon, asking them to start a community discussion if they want to retain some or all of their rights. If the users do not respond, then their advanced rights will be removed by the stewards.

However, if you as a community would like to create your own activity review process superseding the global one, want to make another decision about these inactive rights holders, or already have a policy that we missed, then please notify the stewards on Meta-Wiki so that we know not to proceed with the rights review on your wiki. This revamped newsletter distributes relevant news and events about the Movement Charter, Universal Code of Conduct, Movement Strategy Implementation grants, Board elections and other relevant MSG topics.

This Newsletter will be distributed quarterly, while more frequent Updates will also be delivered weekly or bi-weekly to subscribers. Please remember to subscribe here if you would like to receive these updates.

Wikimedia Wikimeet India 2022 Postponed

Dear Wikimedians,

We want to give you an update related to Wikimedia Wikimeet India 2022. Wikimedia Wikimeet India 2022 (or WMWM2022) was to be conducted from 18 to 20 February 2022 and is postponed now.

Currently, we are seeing a new wave of the pandemic that is affecting many people around. Although WMWM is an online event, it has multiple preparation components such as submission, registration, RFC etc which require community involvement.

We feel this may not be the best time for extensive community engagement. We have also received similar requests from Wikimedians around us. Following this observation, please note that we are postponing the event, and the new dates will be informed on the mailing list and on the event page. Although the main WMWM is postponed, we may conduct a couple of brief calls/meets (similar to the Stay safe, stay connected call) on the mentioned date, if things go well.

பல்வேறு விக்கிக்குழுமங்களில் பயனர் குழுக்கள் இருப்பதை அறிந்திருப்போம். அவ்வாறு இதுவரை தமிழ் விக்கிப்பீடியாவில் இல்லை. ஒருவகையில் தனித் தனிக் குழுவாகப் பிரிந்திருக்காமல் ஒரே குழுவாக இருந்தாலும் விரைவில் முடிவுகளை எடுக்கவும் பொறுப்பேற்கவும் தொடர்ந்து ஈடுபடவும் சில நேரங்களில் சவலாக உள்ளது. உதாரணமாக, கடந்த மாதங்களில் பல கல்லூரிகள் உள்ளகப் பயிற்சிக்குத் தங்களை இணைத்துக் கொள்ள கோரிக்கை அனுப்பியும் நம்மிடம் உரிய திட்டமோ முன்னெடுப்போ இல்லாததால் அந்த வாய்ப்புகளைப் பயன்படுத்த முடியவில்லை. அதே வேளை ஒரு பயனர்கள் குழு இதனைப் பொறுப்பேற்று விக்கி முறைகளுக்கேற்ப வெளிப் பயிற்சிகளை அளிக்க முடிந்தால் தமிழ் விக்கித் திட்டங்களுக்கெல்லாம் பயனளிக்கக் கூடியதாக இருக்கும். விக்கித்திட்டங்களில் பயிற்சி பெறப் பல கல்லூரிகள் ஆர்வம் காட்டுகின்றனர், விக்கிப் பரப்புரைக்கு விக்கிமீடியா அறக்கட்டளை முதல் சிஐஎஸ் வரை உதவுவார்கள். பெயரளவில் பயனர் குழுவாக இல்லாமல் பரப்புரைக்கான இலக்குடன் சில குறிக்கோள்களை முன்வைத்து தொடர்ந்து இயங்கலாம். உலகளவில் பல்வேறு பயனர் குழுக்கள் உள்ளன. இந்த ஆண்டு உள்ளகப் பயிற்சி முதல் பல்வேறு பயிற்சிகளுக்கான தேவை உள்ளது. சுருக்கமாக விக்கித்திட்டப் பயிற்சிகளுக்கான பயனர் குழுவாக இருக்கலாம். இதுபோன்ற ஒரு குழுவை தமிழ் விக்கியில் உருவாக்கலாமா? சாதக பாதகங்களை அறியத்தரலாம். அதன் பின்னர் அதன் செயல் திட்டங்களை வகுப்போம். -நீச்சல்காரன் (பேச்சு) 08:19, 4 பெப்ரவரி 2022 (UTC)

7.  ஆதரவு -- "விக்கித்திட்டப் பயிற்சிகளுக்கான பயனர் குழுவாக இருக்கலாம்" குழுவை இந்த ஒரு பயன்பாடு என்று மட்டும் சுருக்கிட வேண்டாம். தமிழ் விக்கி குழு என்று பொதுவாக ஆரம்பம் செய்யலாம். அதில் பயனர்களின் ஈடுபாடுகளுக்கு ஏற்ப நிகழ்ச்சிகளை செய்யலாம். பயிற்சி நிகழ்ச்சிகள், போட்டிகள், கருத்தரங்கம், மாநாடு முதலிய பல நிகழ்ச்சிகளைச் செய்யலாம். விக்கிப்பீடியா தவிர ஏனைய தமிழ் விக்கி திட்டகளிலும் நிகழ்ச்சிகளைச் செய்யலாம். ஆனாலும் இதில் சில சிக்கல்கள் வரலாம். பணத்தை கையாழுவதில் தான் அநேக பிரச்சனைகள் மற்ற குழுக்களில் வருகிறது. வெளிப்படையான அணுகுமுறையால் அப்பிரச்சனைகளைக் தீர்க்கலாம். மேலும் குழு என்று வந்து விட்டால் ஆண்டு அறிக்கை தயார் செய்தல் போன்ற சில வேலைகளை ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் தவறால் செய்ய வேண்டும் செய்ய வேண்டும். நிறுவாக வேலைப்பழு அதிகமாகும். மேலும் ஒரு குழு என்று வந்தால் அதற்கு தலைவர், துணைத்தலைவர், செயலாளர் போன்ற பாகுபாடுகள் பயனர்களுக்கு நடுவே வருவதைச் சிலக் குழுக்களில் வருகிறது. குழுதொடங்கித்தான் இந்த நிகழ்ச்சிகளை எல்லாம் செய்யவேண்டும் என்று இல்லை. விரைவு நிதி, திட்ட நிதி, நிகழ்ச்சி நிதி என்று பல வழிகளில் தனி நபராகவோ அல்லது ஒன்றுக்கு மேற்ப்பட்டோர் சேர்ந்து நிதிப் பெற்று நிகழ்ச்சிகளைச் செய்யலாம். இப்படியாக செய்ய முடியாததை குழு தொடங்கித்தான் செய்யமுடியும் என்று என்ன இருக்கும் என்று ஆராயலாம். அண்மையில் பயனர்:Info-farmer வெற்றிகரமாக ரூபாய் 3,20,600/- திட்ட நிதியாக இந்த திட்டத்திற்காக பெற்றுள்ளார். இது போல் முதலில் சில திட்டங்களில் நிதி பெற்று நிகழ்ச்சிகளைத் தொடங்கி அனுபவம் பெறலாம். தற்பொழுது விக்கி சமூக நிதி தொடங்கப்பட உள்ளது. அதில் விண்ணப்பம் செய்து நிதி பெறலாம். இது போன்ற விக்கி நிதி வழங்கும் குழுவில் நான் உறுப்பினராக உள்ளேன். ஏதேனும் உதவி தேவைப்பட்டால் தெரிவிக்கவும். நன்றி -- பாலாஜி ^{(பேசலாம் வாங்க!)} 06:16, 15 பெப்ரவரி 2022 (UTC)

@Ravidreams: கருத்திற்கு நன்றி. கடந்த ஆண்டு ஜேகேகேஎன் கல்விக் குழுமத்திற்கு அவ்வாறு சிஐஎஸ் உடனான புரிந்துணர்வு ஒப்பந்தத்திற்கு முயன்றோம். ஆனால் விரைவாக எதையும் முடிக்கமுடியவில்லை. பயனர்களாகத் தமிழக அரசுடன் போட்டப்பட்ட புரிந்துணர்வு ஒப்பந்தம் புதுப்பிக்கப்படவில்லை என்று நேற்று தான் ஓர் உரையாடலில் Info-farmer குறிப்பிட்டிருந்தார். தற்போதும் பல கல்லூரிகள் உள்ளகப்பயிற்சிக்குப் புரிந்துணர்விற்கு அழைக்கிறார்கள். சில பயனர்களாக முன்னெடுப்பதற்குப் பதில் குழுவாக முன்னெடுக்கலாம் என நினைத்தேன். ஆனால் குழுவின் அமைதி கெடுமெனில் பயனர் குழு திட்டத்தைக் கைவிடலாம்.

• பொதுவாகவே மட்டுப்பாட்டுக் கருவிகளின் குழுவின் சமூக ஓடைகளில் செய்திகள், அடைவுகள், கோரிக்கைகள் போன்றவற்றில் கருவிகளின் மூலவடிவு மற்றும் பொதுவான போக்கைக் கவனிக்க வேண்டும்.
• உரையாடல்களில் கலந்து கொண்டு மூலவடிவினைப் பற்றி சமூகத்தினரிடம் தெரிவிக்க வேண்டும்.
• யுக்திகள், சிறந்த அனுபவங்கள், கற்ற செயல்முறைகள் மற்றும் பின்னணித் தகவல்களை வழங்கி மட்டுப்பாட்டுக் கருவிகள் குழுவின் தயாரிப்பிற்கு உதவ வேண்டும்.
• உதவி ஆவணங்கள் தயாரித்தல்.

Universal Code of Conduct (UCoC) Enforcement Guidelines & Ratification Vote

In brief: the revised Enforcement Guidelines have been published. Voting to ratify the guidelines will happen from 7 March to 21 March 2022. Community members can participate in the discussion with the UCoC project team and drafting committee members on 25 February (12:00 UTC) and 4 March (15:00 UTC). Please sign-up.

Details:

The m:Universal Code of Conduct (UCoC) provides a baseline of acceptable behavior for the entire Wikimedia movement. The UCoC and the Enforcement Guidelines were written by volunteer-staff drafting committees following community consultations. The revised guidelines were published 24 January 2022.

#1 Community Conversations

To help to understand the guidelines, the Movement Strategy and Governance (MSG) team will host conversations with the UCoC project team and drafting committee members on 25 February (12:00 UTC) and 4 March (15:00 UTC). Please sign-up.

Comments about the guidelines can be shared on the Enforcement Guidelines talk page. You can comment in any language.

#2 Ratification Voting

The Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees released a statement on the ratification process where eligible voters can support or oppose the adoption of the enforcement guidelines through vote. Wikimedians are invited to translate and share important information.

A SecurePoll vote is scheduled from 7 March to 21 March 2022.

Eligible voters are invited to answer a poll question and share comments. Voters will be asked if they support the enforcement of the UCoC based on the proposed guidelines.

Several improvements around templates

Hello, from March 9, several improvements around templates will become available on your wiki:

• Fundamental improvements of the VisualEditor template dialog (1, 2),
• Improvements to make it easier to put a template on a page (3) (for the template dialogs in VisualEditor, 2010 Wikitext and New Wikitext Mode),
• and improvements in the syntax highlighting extension CodeMirror (4, 5) (which is available on wikis with writing direction left-to-right).

All these changes are part of the “Templates” project by WMDE Technical Wishes. We hope they will help you in your work, and we would love to hear your feedback on the talk pages of these projects.
